Tigers prospects shine in the Arizona Fall League
The Arizona Fall League is often a platform for the brightest up-and-coming talent in baseball, and this year is no exception, especially for the Detroit Tigers. Among the notable participants is Kevin McGonigle, the organization’s best player and the second-best player in all of baseball. His performance has garnered attention reminiscent of the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hype in 2018. McGonigle is off to a respectable start with the Scottsdale Scorpions, posting a .280/.441/.440 batting line over 34 plate appearances in seven games, including four doubles, five runs batted in and two stolen bases.
However, it is another Tigers pro who is currently attracting attention.
Max Anderson’s remarkable week
Third baseman Max Anderson, ranked ninth in the Tigers’ farm system, lit up the Arizona Fall League with an explosive performance. In the second week of the AFL, Anderson emerged as one of the league’s standout batsmen, showcasing his power and consistency at bat. In just three games, he posted an impressive 5-for-9 record, collecting an astonishing 14 total bases, including three home runs.
His offensive explosion also resulted in him scoring five runs batted in and crossing home plate six times, as well as drawing five walks and being hit by a pitch. Anderson’s performance catapulted his on-base plus slugging (OPS) to an astounding 2,033, a number that places him in an elite group as he is one of only two players in the league to surpass the 2,000 mark.
A bright future ahead
At just 24 years old, Anderson’s recent performances in the AFL highlight not only his potential, but also the depth of talent within the Tigers organization. As he continues to hone his skills against quality competition, the baseball community is closely monitoring his progress. With performances like these, Anderson solidifies his strong case for his future role in the Major Leagues. The Arizona Fall League has undoubtedly provided him with a fitting stage to showcase his skills and cement his status as a promising player to keep a close eye on.
