Ohtani in Toronto: Pitching Update & Series Outlook

Canadian baseball fans hoping to see pitcher Shohei Ohtani in action will have to settle for the “designated hitter version,” at least for the first two games of the World Series.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will rely on Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto to start games 1 and 2 respectively which will take place Friday and Saturday at Rogers Center. Consequently, it is reasonable to believe that Ohtani will climb the mound upon his return to Dodger Stadium, location of games 3 to 5 of the series. Obviously, he could be available in the event that the two clubs return to the Queen City for matches 6 and 7.

The Japanese delivered one of the most memorable performances in baseball history during Game 4 of the National League Championship Series. Against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, he shut out opposing batters for six innings, while fanning 10 rivals. And at bat, he slammed three solo home runs.

Snell has been relentless in the 2025 playoffs thus far, winning all three of his decisions and posting a 0.86 ERA. Yamamoto also has no reason to be ashamed of his performance: he obtained two wins and suffered one loss, his average being 1.83.

The TVA Sports channel will broadcast the entire World Series, starting with the first duel scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. A 30-minute pre-game show will precede.
