Menpora Erick Thohir congratulated the Indonesian men’s singles badminton players on their success Jonathan Christie who managed to become champion Denmark Open 2025Sunday (19/10).
Jonathan managed to become the 2025 Denmark Open champion after defeating the Chinese athlete, Shi Yuqi, in the final match in Odense. Having lost in the first game, Jojo won 13-21, 21-15 and 21-15 in the final match which lasted 72 minutes.
Jonathan’s success in becoming champion made the 28 year old player the first Indonesian men’s singles player to win the Denmark Open title since Simon Santoso in 2009.

Through a post on his Instagram account, Erick responded to Jonathan’s success in becoming champion of the Denmark Open 2025. Erick said that Jonathan’s achievement proves that Indonesia is a big country in the world of sports.
“Indonesian badminton athlete, Jonatan Christie, succeeded in becoming Men’s Singles champion at the Denmark Open 2025. In the final, Jojo managed to win over Chinese athlete, Shi Yu Qi, who is ranked number one in the world,” wrote Erick.
“This achievement is proof that we as a great nation and a strong nation can continue to make history at the international level. Congratulations Jojo!” wrote Erick.
Jonathan became the fifth Indonesian men’s singles champion at the Denmark Open. The four Red and White athletes who have won the Denmark Open are Rudy Hartono (1971, 1973 and 1975), Liem Swie King (1978), Hermawan Susanto (1991) and Simon Santoso (2009).
Since deciding to leave the PBSI National Training Center, Jonathan’s performance has begun to improve. Before becoming champion at the Denmark Open, Jojo successfully won the 2025 Korea Open.
“I want to maintain this level of self-confidence. I do a lot of talking and motivating myself before I appear on the court. I try to maintain a positive atmosphere and keep repeating positive affirmations, over and over again,” said Jonatan after becoming the Denmark Open champion.
