Gymnastics Worlds: IOC Sanctions Indonesia Over Israeli Ban

The International Olympic Commitee (IOC) has severed ties with Indonesia, imposing sanctions after the nation barred Israeli athletes from the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. This decision represents a important setback for Indonesia, which has ambitions of hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.

The IOC Executive Board, in a meeting this week, reiterated a core principle of the Olympic Charter: All athletes, teams, and sports officials meeting the eligibility criteria must be able to participate in international sporting competitions and events, without suffering any form of discrimination from the host country.

To prevent similar discriminatory actions, the IOC has taken decisive measures against Indonesia.
