Chen-Toh vs Taiwan: Badminton Challenge

The French Open is heating up, and Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei are facing a stern test early in the tournament. They’ll need to be on their game against Taiwan’s Ye Hong-wei and Nicole Chan, a duo that proved to be a tough opponent in their last meeting.

Back in May at the Singapore Open, Ye Hong-wei and Nicole Chan pulled off an upset, defeating Chen tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei in the second round. this was a surprising result, especially since the Malaysian pair had won their two previous encounters. To avoid a repeat of that outcome, Chen Tang Jie and Toh ee Wei must elevate their performance, notably after a somewhat shaky start in their opening match at the Glaz arena.

The fourth seeds were forced to come from behind in their first-round match against another Taiwanese team, Yang Po-hsuan and Hu Ling-fang. After dropping the first game 16-21, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei rallied to take the next two games 21-16 and 21-12, securing their spot in the second round.

Reflecting on the match, Chen Tang jie noted, I think our rhythm was a bit slow, and the opponents had more chances to counter-attack. We probably lacked patience in the first game.

Their coach, Nova Widianto, had set a goal for the pair to win at least one of the three European tournaments on their current tour. they came close at the Denmark Open last week, reaching the semi-finals before being eliminated by the top-ranked Chinese pair, Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin.

In other malaysian news, the husband-and-wife team of Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie were pushed to their limits in their first-round match. They battled past Indonesia’s Amri Syahnawi and Nita Marwan with a score of 15-21, 21-17, 21-17. Their next challenge will be against Scotland’s Alexander Dunn and Julie Macpherson.

The men’s doubles pair Wan Arif Wan Junaidi and Yap Roy King also advanced to the second round, defeating France’s Eloi Adam and Leo Rossi 21-19, 21-17. They are likely to face a strong challenge in the next round, potentially against one of the formidable Chinese pairings of Xie Haonan-Zeng Weihan or Liang weikeng-Wang Chang.

Sadly, the women’s doubles duo Carmen Ting and Ong xing Yee were unable to advance. They let a golden opportunity slip away, losing to France’s Margot Lambert and Camille Pognante 21-16,14-21,17-21.

Meanwhile, the eighth-seeded Chinese women’s doubles pair Li Yijing and Luo Xumin received a walkover into the second round. Their malaysian opponents, Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing, were forced to withdraw from their opening match.
