Asuene: Global Sustainability Partner for World Football Summit – Decarbonizing Sports

ASUNE Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director and CEO: Kohei Nishiwada, hereinafter referred to as the “Company”) has been appointed as a Global Sustainability Partner of the World Football Summit (WFS), an international organization that connects the global football industry and supports the realization of a sustainable and inclusive future. In addition to the Hong Kong Games in September, we will continue to support sustainable operations and promote the decarbonization of the sports industry through the Games in Madrid in October, Riyadh in December, and Mexico in 2026.

Background to the conclusion of partnership agreements for the four world championships

With the urgent need to address climate change, the sports industry is also accelerating efforts to visualize CO2 emissions during events and take reduction measures based on the data. In particular, in the field of football, which attracts worldwide attention, there is a need not only for clubs and leagues to strengthen their sustainability policies, but also for international tournaments and business conferences to shift to operations that minimize their environmental impact.

In light of these trends, for the Hong Kong Games to be held in September 2025, our company, which operates the CO2 emissions visualization/reduction cloud “ASUENE,” which boasts the No. 1 implementation track record in Asia, calculated the CO2 emissions of the entire event before and after the event. As a result, our analysis that “international travel accounts for the majority of emissions” and our recommendations for “reduction measures such as reviewing venue selection and transportation design” were highly praised.

As the official global sustainability partner of the World Football Summit, we have continued to sign partnership agreements around the world, starting with the Madrid tournament in October, Riyadh in December, and the Mexico tournament next year. We will continue to promote decarbonization of the entire sports industry globally by leveraging our expertise in providing one-stop comprehensive support, from visualization of CO2 emissions to proposing and consulting on reduction solutions.

Initiatives through partnership

Through this partnership, we implemented the following initiatives at the Madrid Games in October.

・Pre- and post-calculation of CO2 emissions at the event

・Participation as an official global sustainability partner

・ASUENE APAC Managing Director Masaaki Hamada will be on the panel discussion “Stadiums 365: Innovating fan engagement & sustainability of mega events”

・Held a practical workshop “The Next Play: A Practical Workshop on Decarbonising Football” and discussed specific CO2 emission reduction measures with participants

・Social contribution activities: Holding tree-planting workshops and providing opportunities to learn about forest regeneration mechanisms

At the Madrid conference, we supported the acceleration of decarbonization through a multifaceted approach, from sharing knowledge to creating practical solutions and even environmental education.
