Andries Noppert has lost his basic place after a moderate season start at SC Heerenveen. Bernt Klaverboer is the new number one under the bar, according to trainer Robin Veldman in conversation with the Leeuwarder Courant.
After the duel with the Eagles, coach Robin Veldman expressed his doubts: “We are going to seriously discuss with him that a higher level is being asked at our way of playing and what we as a club stand for,” said Veldman.
The decline of Noppert does not come from nowhere. The 31-year-old Fries, under Louis van Gaal still keeper of Orange at the 2022 World Cup, lost his place to Mickey van der Hart in January 2024.
Under Robin van Persie, Noppert also started on the couch, got that place back later and later returned to the couch and had a dramatic raid in the lost cup match with Quick Boys.
With interim coach Henk Brugge and after the arrival of Veldman, Noppert was again the goalkeeper of Heerenveen from March. In the last regular game with Feyenoord, he was injured.
Because of that injury, Van der Hart kept in the play-offs against AZ. The 19-year-old Frisian talent Klaverboer then, after an injury for Van der Hart, fell well. Van Veldman now gets Klaverboer the chance as a new first keeper.
