According to a leak, a new update for the “Call of Duty HQ” app ensures a significant reduction in file size. Players on the PS5 in particular benefit significantly, but there are also noticeable improvements on the PS4. The adaptation could be important for the upcoming release of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7”.
The next big update for the “Call of Duty HQ” app apparently brings with it a noticeable change. According to Dataminers, the basic installation on the PS5 shrinks by more than 100 gigabytes. A reduction is also provided on the PS4, albeit to a lesser extent.
Significantly smaller file size on PS5
The community criticizes the enormous installation sizes of the “Call of Duty” series for years. On the PS5, the app, which bundles several parts, took around 126 GB in version 1.078. With version 1,080, according to a leak, the size drops to about 25.7 GB – that is, by more than 100 GB. That reports PlayStation Game Size.
The “Call of Duty HQ” app is also optimized on the PS4. With update 01.80, the installation shrinks from 81 GB to 62 GB, it says in the leak. The savings are smaller, but it is still remarkable for an older generation console.

According to reports, the PS5 version of “Call of Duty HQ” is significantly smaller than the PS4 counterpart could be related to the octopus technology. Thanks to hardware decomprimoration, the PS5 octopus data can be unzipped almost without CPU load and thus use storage space more efficiently. However, it is unclear how the reduction of the data actually comes about. Activision has not yet commented on the data sizes mentioned.
The “Call of Duty HQ” app has been used as a central platform for current parts of the series since “Modern Warfare 2” (2022). However, she receives criticism regularly due to the confusing operation and the high memory requirement.
Activision has already removed in the past few weeks “Modern Warfare 2” and “Modern Warfare 3” from the HQ app. It can be assumed that this space for the upcoming release of „Call of Duty: Black Ops 7“ is created. The title will be released on November 14, 2025 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.
