Phoenix Hagen forward Tim Uhlemann remains confident in his team’s ability to secure their status in the easyCredit BBL despite a challenging start to the season. Following the club’s promotion to Germany’s top basketball division, the team has struggled to convert close contests into wins, currently sitting at 17th place in the league standings.
Building on a 2-5 Start in the BBL
Hagen has posted a record of two wins and five losses in their return to the top flight. While the win-loss column suggests a difficult transition, the team’s underlying metrics indicate they are competitive. According to season data, Phoenix Hagen holds a net rating of -6.0, a figure that would statistically place them 12th in the league rankings. Head coach Chris Harris continues to emphasize a long-term process, urging the squad to focus on steady improvement rather than immediate results. Uhlemann noted that while narrow defeats against teams like Chemnitz, Ulm, and Frankfurt have been frustrating, the overall trajectory of the team remains positive.
Reflecting on the Promotion Journey
For Uhlemann, the current campaign is the culmination of years of effort at the Westphalian club. The 27-year-old joined Phoenix Hagen in 2022, five years after the team’s relegation from the BBL in 2017. He described the team’s promotion last year as one of the most significant moments of his professional career. It is an outstanding feeling,
Uhlemann said regarding the climb back to the top tier. I am in my fifth year here now, and we have built all of this very slowly. That we managed to do it last year was one of the most incredible moments of my career.
Consistency and Team Culture
Uhlemann has emerged as a key figure within the organization, contributing an average of 6.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in approximately 20 minutes of play per game. He attributes his commitment to the club, even during its years in the second division, to the internal environment established by the front office and coaching staff. The power forward emphasized that the shared belief in the team’s vision has fostered a strong sense of cohesion among the players and staff.
Upcoming League Schedule
The path toward securing their place in the league does not get easier for the Westphalians. Phoenix Hagen is scheduled to face Alba Berlin on the road this Friday. Following that matchup, the team will return to the Ischelandhalle to host the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. These fixtures represent the next opportunity for the team to improve their standing as they continue their efforts to avoid relegation.
