The name of Philippe Clement regularly fell into transfer rumors in recent months. AA Gent and even Anderlecht were mentioned as a possible new destination for the Belgian coach. But Clement itself now made the Klokke short work in the podcast with one slope: Anderlecht.
“No, that will never be an option. Impossible. After I have worked for Club Brugge for sixteen years, I will not see myself going to Anderlecht in the future,” it sounded frightened. The former player and coach of Blauw-Zwart therefore leaves no room for doubt. The rivalry between the two clubs is too deeply ingrained for him.
Club Brugge remains the exception
Remarkably, Clement does not exclude a return to Club Brugge. “I will see myself returning someday, but whether that will be as a coach, or in another position … I don’t know. But if I would return to Belgium, then Club Brugge would be the club where I would like to do that.” For the fans of Club, that is a clear nod to the future.
Success and setback
As a trainer Furore in Belgium, Clement made passages at Waasland-Beveren, KRC Genk and Club Brugge, where he won titles. Foreign adventures followed at AS Monaco and Rangers FC. In both cases he started strong, but he fell back later, which led to dismissal.
