Julian Alaphilippe finally won a race in the colors of his new Tudor team. And he did not choose the least difficult by winning on the Quebec Grand Prix, a World Tour event, the highest world level.
While the majority of observers imagined Tadej Pogacar to win for his return on the road after his victory in the Tour de France, Alaphilippe was the smartest.
It has been several seasons that the double world champion compensates for his age, 33 years old, by his science of the race. Exhausted several for almost 80 km, he saved himself while his escaped companions were running out. Thirty seconds behind him, Tadej Pogacar was trying a counterattack but the Slovenian got up four kilometers from the finish.
On arrival, his partner Marion Rousse rushed over him to congratulate him. “You did the perfect race,” she breathed, obviously very moved.
“I dreamed of winning this event,” says Alaphilippe after his victory. I had order of my sports director to keep forces for the end. I will need a little time to realize. »»
The Frenchman presented himself in the final rise in the streets of Quebec accompanied by the Italian Alberto Bettiol and his compatriot Pavel Sivakov. Lerger than the other two, Alaphilippe understood that he had only one chance: attacking the first.

Time for him to get a few meters ahead and it was enough. Because Bettiol and Sivakov have looked at too long. Alaphilippe had no longer won on a classic World Tour from the Walloon 2021 arrow. His last World Tour victory dates back to his stage on the Giro 2024, or 485 days.
