Toupane & France: Shooting Struggles, Team Pride

French coach Jean-Aimé Toupane delivered his analysis after the defeat of the French women’s team in the Eurobasket semi-finals this Friday, against Spain.

What is your feeling after this meeting?
Jean-Aimé Toupane : Disappointment. After I am proud of my daughters, proud of this team. We made a very good tournament and it is played out today (Friday). We missed a little bit of lucidity. We could not alternate the game. And for my taste, we played too much stopped. We didn’t have the flow that we usually had. And even when we were in front, we did not know how to keep the gap because they alternated defenses to slow us down a little (…) What the team has shown from the start is very good, there is no reproach to do to anyone because we win and lose together. It did not fall on the right side, we had the merit of returning to a point. If we had put this free throw, maybe in overtime we forgot everything. We didn’t put it, it doesn’t matter.

The French team ends with a 5/30 three -point statistic, is it very little?
We had a lot of success (since the start of the tournament, editor’s note) and we forgot that we were not necessarily a nation of shooters, which may be alternating. But that is part of the game, we took risks, today it has not fallen on the right side.

France has always managed to win a medal since 2009 at the Euro, we must continue to maintain this culture with the match for 3rd place on Sunday?
Of course, that’s why I understand that we are all disappointed today. But we will re -mobilize (…) even if we will not have the medal that we hope, the most important thing is to finish the tournament well.

Interview in mixed zone.
