The Frenchman Clement Chidekh conquered yesterday the 40th edition of the Open Kiroleta-Bakio Udala Saria, professional tennis tournament for the world classification of the ATP, after defeating in the final the Colombian Adriá Soriano Barrera for a comfortable 6-0 and 6-2 in one hour and four minutes. With this victory, Galo gets the eleventh title as a professional at 24 years. He had already triumphed this year in the Gossauu Tournament (Romania). Because of its position in the ranking of the ATP (238), it was already one of the greatest candidates to take the bakio txapela.
The French tennis player is imposed for the second consecutive year in the tournament and is the second player who wins the Kiroleta Open in a row since he is an international tournament. Before only Roberto Ortega had achieved, in 2017 and 2018. Until now, six Gauls have been the best in Bakio’s appointment: Grenier, Lokoli, Fournerie, Insausti, Martin and Chidekh.
This success can be a catapult to the champion by adding a good number of points in the world classification and approaching the ‘Top 200’, which would open the door to previous Grand Slam and ATPs tournaments this same season. Soriano Barrera is not empty because the runner -up in the Kiroleta Open also adds points to the ATP ranking and accumulates minutes on the track in an event with strong rivals, which was the main objective of the Colombian in his participation in the Biscay tournament.
«I am very satisfied with the Tennis Week that I have been able to deploy in Bakio. It is a tournament that I like a lot for the environment, its people and for the work behind. I feel a true lucky one to win here. Today’s final was waiting for her hard, very hot, and the truth is that I have felt very good. The result has been very bulky and I hurry up the next battle against Adriá, ”said the winner.
Aggressive game
Chidekh stood out in the final for its peace of mind when choosing the right blows and the glove that showed in its reverse. He played a very aggressive tennis from the first moment and exhibited a very high level to the rest. He moved with a very high pace on a very hot day on the central track of the Kiroleta club.
The game was very expensive from the beginning to the champion. With short points and aggressive remains, Chidekh beat Soriano Barrera 6-0 in the first set. The Frenchman was more wisdom in the key moments and left his rival in the first manga. Already in the second set, Chidekh reached a 4-0 advantage and did not yield throughout the match.
“Proud”
«We are very happy with how the tournament has been developed, with professional ranking ATP tennis players, and with a lot of audiences in the stands throughout the week. Players such as Bautista, Davidovich, Munar or Zapata have passed here, and I think Bertrand and Chidekh can also see you soon in the upper part of the world ranking. It has been a hard week for the meteorology, a lot of heat and one day of rain, but we have been able to get the tournament forward and it is to feel proud of the work of the entire team, ”said Igor del Busto, director of the tournament and president of the Basque Tennis Federation.
