Binéfar Celebrates sporting Excellence
Binéfar, Spain, shone brightly this Friday as the 23rd annual Sports gala illuminated the Municipal theater of the Titiriteros. The city’s Department of Sports honored athletes, clubs, coaches, and sponsors for their remarkable achievements in 2024.
A Night of Recognition
The gala, a vibrant party of athletic dedication, was a resounding success. Mayor Patricia Rivera and Councilor Beatriz Oliván presented awards to 25 deserving individuals and teams. The Maria Mateo Dance School provided captivating entertainment, further enhancing the evening’s atmosphere. The theater was packed, reflecting the deep-seated passion for sports in Binéfar.
Stellar Performances Recognized
The awards ceremony highlighted remarkable talent across various disciplines. Valeria Azlor, a member of the Binéfar Futsal Club’s youth team, earned the coveted award for Best Athlete in Collective Sports. Her impressive performances in the Lleida federated competition, representing Catalonia, were a key factor in her selection.
Promising Judoka Shine
Sogona Magassa, a Judo Binéfar athlete, was recognized as the Best Female Promise Athlete (under 17). Her achievements include the Spanish Cadet +70kg championship, team victories with the Aragonese team, and multiple selections for the European cup and Super Cup. Sandro pla, also a Judoca, took home the Best Male Promise Athlete award.His runner-up finish in the Spanish Cadet -66kg competition, coupled with numerous Super Cup and Spanish Cup titles, solidified his claim to the honor.
Absolute Champions
Isabel Bonet, a member of the Binéfar Chess Club, was named Best Absolute Athlete (18+).Her title as Aragon Sub 18 and Absolute Champion, coupled with a third-place finish in the Spanish fast games championship and her candidacy for a teaching position at the Benasque International Open, showcased her mastery of the game. Javier Prieto, from the Binéfar athletics Club, earned the Best Absolute Male Athlete award. His aragon Championship in the Disco sub 20 category, along with a third-place finish in the Spanish outdoor hammer throw and a fourth-place finish in the long hammer throw, cemented his exceptional athleticism.
Team Triumph
The Binéfar Futsal Club’s women’s youth team, a cohesive unit of Julia Luis, maría Cosialls, Candela Ibarz, Ada Galindo, Paulina Campo, Lorena Torguet, Andrea Lleida, Carla Molina, Sara Ibarz, Leyre Bed, Claudia López, Iris Galindo, Uma Gibanel, under the guidance of Josan Boilac and Laia Blanc, earned the award for the group with the greatest sports merits. Their regular league championship, runner-up finish in the Copa Lleida, and accomplished ascent to the youth honor division were key factors in their recognition.

Tagse advice and insurance received the sponsor company award for their financial support of the Binéfar Basketball Club.Raúl Clemente,a Judo Binéfar veteran with 25 years of experience,received the Department of Sports’ Special Prize.His 17 national medals, 33 international call-ups representing Spain, and undefeated record in the 1st Division of the National League of Spanish Clubs, along with his coaching roles with the national Judo team, Aragonese judo technification programs, and Paralympic Selection of Tokyo and Paris 2024, earned him this prestigious honor. He currently serves as the sports director of the Aragonese Judo Federation and associated sports.
Club-Level Honors
Individual club recognitions further highlighted the evening’s celebration. Pablo Gibanel (Binéfar Cycling Club), Hugo Montiu (Badminton Binéfar Club), Paula nadal (Tennis Club – Padel Binéfar), and Clara Martínez (Binéfar Athletics Club) were honored for their exceptional contributions to their respective clubs. Aitor García (Binéfar Pescadores Club) was also recognized for his achievements and contributions to the Aragonese Fishing Federation.

- Francesc Xavier Gómez, a stalwart of the Binéfar Sports Club, celebrated 200 games in seven seasons, a testament to his commitment.
Individual Triumphs
- Laura Gimeno, a formidable chess player, was crowned as the fourth-ranked player in Aragon and a Spanish champion.
- José Luis Aguarón, a champion in the Spanish cup, was honored for his worldwide success.
- Marc Bagué, a key player for the Binéfar datchball team, was named the best player at the World Cup in Spain, a remarkable achievement.
- Víctor Nadal, a product of the Binéfar youth system, was recognized for his extensive career in the third Division.

- The Binéfar rhythmic gymnastics team, comprising Valeria Samperi, Eva Jaramillo, leire Lana, Olivia Arrufat, and Giulia Dusa, were celebrated for their Prebenjamin achievements.
