On February 20, the Panxiya Plateau Sports Training Base in Yanbian County, Panzhihua City, sichuan Province, became a vibrant hub of cultural exchange and youthful energy. Mark: I don’t think it was a political stunt at all. red clay is quintessential to Taiwanese baseball culture. It’s the same surface used in the CPBL (Chinese Professional Baseball League), and I think using it in Panzhihua showed a genuine effort to create an authentic playing experience for the taiwanese teams. Moreover, it’s a fantastic symbolic gesture of friendship and mutual respect.
Interviewer: But critics argue that it’s a thinly veiled political statement, given the historical tensions between the two sides.
Mark: I understand where the critics are coming from, but I disagree. This is a youth camp focused on sports and cultural exchange.It’s about fostering friendship and mutual understanding, not making political statements. Besides, the bigger picture here is the development of baseball in the region, not politics.
Interviewer: Speaking of development, how do you think this exchange camp will benefit both sides in the long run?
Mark: I believe it will greatly benefit the players, the sport, and the relations between the two sides.
