Karlsruhe tennis pro Yannick Hanfmann missed the big surprise against world number one Novak Djokovic in the round of 16 of the ATP tournament in Geneva and was eliminated. The score after two sets was 3:6, 3:6 from the 32-year-old’s perspective. Hanfmann had previously eliminated two-time Olympic champion Andy Murray.

But there was no match for Grand Slam record champion Djokovic, who had accepted a wildcard for the preparatory tournament for the French Open because of his form crisis. Djokovic showed a concentrated performance from the start on his 37th birthday, but was stopped by a rain break when the score was 5:3.

When the match resumed after just over an hour, the Serb promptly secured the first set. In the second set, Hanfmann got off to a rocket start and took a 3-0 lead, but did not win another game after that.

The world number one used the second match point to win. At the French Open, which begins on Sunday in Paris, Djokovic starts the race as defending champion.
