Xavi leaves Barça with victory in Seville

The Catalans ended their coach’s mandate with a narrow victory in Andalusia.

Xavi leaves on a good note. For the last of its coach The president of the Catalan club, Joan Laporta, announced on Friday that he was parting ways with the 44-year-old former midfielder, a few weeks after having reinforced him in his position. Previously, at the end of January, Xavi had announced his resignation a little prematurely at the end of the season. Sunday’s meeting, without sporting issues, also marked the farewell of Quique Sanchez Flores (59), the coach of Sevilla, from whom the club decided to part ways just six months after his appointment.

Dovbyk top scorer

Barça’s Polish center forward, Robert Lewandowski, scored his 19th goal of the season in Andalusia. He finished in third place in the scorers’ ranking, tied with the Englishman from Real Madrid Jude Bellingham, and behind the Ukrainian from Girona Artem Dovbyk (24 goals) and the Norwegian from Villarreal Alexander Sorloth (23 goals). Moroccan Youssef En-Nesyri equalized for Sevilla (31st) then Fermin Lopez scored the winning goal for the Blaugrana (59th).

Reigning champion, author of a disappointing season, Barça finished second, ten points behind Real Madrid, champion and qualified for the final of the Champions League, which they will play against Dortmund next Saturday at Wembley. Sevilla FC, certainly saved from relegation, finished in an anonymous fourteenth place, far from its ambitions at the start of the season.
