In the Women’s Champions League final, FC Barcelona beat record champions Olympique Lyon. In Bilbao, the Spanish team beat the French team 2-0 and secured their third title in the premier class.

Thanks in part to world-class footballer Aitana Bonmatí, FC Barcelona won the Champions League, just like last year. The team beat record champions Olympique Lyon 2-0 (0-0) on Saturday evening at the San Mamés stadium in Bilbao and celebrated their third Champions League title.

The Spanish attacker Bonmatí gave coach Jonatan Giraldez’s team the lead. After a goalless first half, the game was decided after the break. Bonmatí was a little lucky because her shot from a tight angle was deflected (63rd minute). Alexia Putellas made the final decision in injury time (90th+5).

For Lyon, which has already won the Champions League title eight times, the three German players Sara Däbritz (ankle surgery), Olympic champion Dzsenifer Marozsan (not a regular) and Laura Benkarth (substitute goalkeeper) were not used.

Barcelona thus took revenge for the surprise defeat in the 2022 final in Turin against Olympique. Lyon had won all four previous duels against each other, including the 2022 final (3-1) and the 2019 final (4-1). After winning the championship and the national cup, Barcelona can celebrate the treble, while Lyon are champions and cup winners in France.
