Vincent Matton: The King of Archery in Bailleul

In turn, each of the archers shot an arrow vertically, trying to unhook the bird, a cap covered in feathers, fixed to the top of a pole located 30 meters from the ground. It took the shooters six rounds before Vincent Matton, a truck driver living in Bailleul, brought down the bird and was thus crowned king of his archer company for a year.

The latter succeeds Jérôme Herbaut who had already won the trophy five times. He was given the king’s cup which he must keep and maintain for a year. “ It’s an honor, more than a reward », Explains the president of the Bailleuloise Guild, Laurent Lazoore. The trophy given to him dates from the 1950s, the names of the “kings” inscribed on its base testify to the age of the Guild. In fact, the oldest dates back to the 16th century. As for the name of this year’s winner, it will be included for the second time since he had already been crowned king in Bailleul in 2006.

Participation in the Emperor’s Shot and the French championships in June

This royal title will allow Vincent Matton to participate in the Emperor’s Shoot on June 2 in Lillers, where he will be confronted with the kings of all the archer companies in the region. He is also qualified for the French archery championships on June 30 in Grande-Synthe. Finally, the year will be decidedly memorable since, on May 18, he will also celebrate more than 25 years of archery.
