Vendrame takes on the 19th stage of the Giro, the second for the Decathlon-AG2R team

The Italian rider won alone this Friday on the transalpine roads.

The Vendrame card was the right one. The Decathlon-AG2R rider won in Sappada at the end of an eventful 19th stage of the Tour of Italy at the front. It was alone that the Italian crossed the finish line. Thanks to this new success, the French team’s record is excellent at the start of the season – 22 victories since January -, the second in this 107th edition of the Giro after that of Valentin Paret-Peintre. “One more ! There was also the one yesterday from Benoît (Cosnefroy) on the Boucles de la Mayenne, it doesn’t stop!”, enthused the Italian. First Frenchman, Julian Alaphilippe finishes in the Top 10 of the day.

As for the general leaders, nothing has changed. The peloton of favorites grouped around the pink jersey Tadej Pogacar crossed the line 16 minutes behind the winner.

Their arrival was marked by the fall of Geraint Thomas six kilometers from the finish. The Welshman, third in the general classification, went to the ground without apparent gravity, touching the rear wheel of Antonio Tiberi in front of him, just as things were starting to get lively.

The leader of Ineos was forced to change bikes. But the other leaders of the peloton immediately got up to wait for him and he was able to cross the line with Pogacar, who is still 7:42 ahead of Daniel Martinez and 8:04 over Thomas in the general standings two stages from the arrival
