V Rising: A Vampire Survival Game Success Story

V Rising, the vampire survival game from Stunlock Studio, is proving to be a huge success after the game released from Steam Early Access on May 8th. It has now even surpassed another indie hit, Hades 2, to become one of the most played titles on Steam in terms of concurrent players.

V Rising’s 1.0 update introduced subtle yet substantial changes to the game’s core mechanics and graphics, adding numerous quality of life improvements and a ton of new content.

V Rising is getting a new region with new bosses and co.

The update expands the already expansive world to include a new region, the Ruins of Mortium, with new bosses, enemies and rewards. The full patch notes contain a lot more than can be squeezed into a few paragraphs. The game has managed to attract new players and achieve high status on the Steam charts.

The game has climbed into Steam’s top 10 with 98,000 concurrent players, which is almost 20 times the average player count. To put that in perspective, according to SteamDB, V Rising typically peaks at around 5,000 players on a good day. Although there was a big spike when the 2023 update, Gloomrot, came out, it wasn’t nearly as high as the 1.0 numbers. However, the game’s full release is still behind its launch peaks, which saw over 150,000 players flock to enjoy some good old-fashioned vampire fun.

V Rising finally goes from early access to full release after 2 years

V Rising entered Steam Early Access almost two years ago and has received numerous small updates to its core gameplay over the years. There have only been two major updates, Gloomrot and version 1.0, and it is Stunlock’s biggest game to date. They previously tried their luck in the MOBA genre with Battlerite, whose many mechanics, particularly camera movement, play a big role in V Rising. That said, Battlerite may not have hit the mark yet, but it paved the way for V Rising.

V Rising can be compared to many other survival games, you have different materials that you have to farm in order to upgrade your own equipment, continue farming and then also upgrade the production points. Just with the twist that the sun hurts you and you can keep slaves and lots of other vampiric details, so if you like these kinds of “building survival” games, definitely check it out! The game is available to all players on Steam and PlayStation 5 and is currently in collaboration with Castlevania.
