Boxer Oleksander Usyk made history this past morning at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) after beating the British Tyson Fury in the world championship Heavyweight. And it had been 25 years since this modality had such an absolute champion. Specifically, since Lennox Lewis achieved it in 1999.
The Ukrainian has emerged victorious by split decision (115-112 Usyk, 114-113 Fury, 114-113 Usyk), but he has already become the new king of boxing, thus ending the British’s undefeatability.
With this victory he becomes the first absolute champion of the premier category in the four-belt era, he already achieved something at cruiserweight. An achievement that is undoubtedly reminiscent of Evander Holyfield, who also won the world titles in both categories.
Titanic fight in the ring
The fight was a blessing for lovers of the noble art. Usyk started very well until ‘Gypsy King’ got a touch in his corner and reacted.
