Unearthing Young Talent: AFA’s Latest Discoveries from Europe including José Castelau de Roa and Nicolás Marcipar

The AFA’s plan to detect young talents in Europe continues uninterruptedly. In this case, the last appearance is that of goalkeeper José Castelau de Roa, who was born in Spain and plays for Real Madrid and was one of those called up to be part of the Argentine Under-17 National Team.

The young man, who turned 15 in January, has been at the Lionel Andrés Messi facility in Ezeiza since Monday, where he has already made contact with Diego Placente’s coaching staff and placed himself under the command of the team. The idea is to evaluate it with a view to the South American U-15 that will be played between August and September in Bolivia.

Castelau de Roa plays for the Real Madrid Cadets team and has already started 12 games so far in 2024. He arrived at the White House team in the 2017 season and already has his first professional contract.

The main novelty is that, although he was born in Getafe and played for the Spanish U-15 team, he decided to join the Albiceleste since his father is Argentine.

In this sense, it is important to highlight that since 2020, footballers can wear the shirt of two National Teams as long as they have not participated in three or more matches with the Major League before turning 21 and that they have not represented one of the two countries in a World Cup.

Nicolás Marcipar, the other “Europibe” who dazzles in Barcelona

That of José Castelau Roa is not the only case of the so-called “Europibes”. Nicolás Marcipar, one of the figures from Barcelona’s La Masía who dazzled Pablo Aimar, also joined from Spain.

Marcipar, born in Castelldefels in 2008 – the place where Lionel Messi lived – is a central defender or left back and came to the Culé entity at the age of nine. Since his arrival at Blaugrana, he showed good performances to the point that he became captain of the Cadet Category A (U-16), of the Spanish team.
