UEFA will join ‘France Football’ in awarding the annual Ballon d’Or from 2024. The agreement with the Amaury group, owner of the French magazine and newspaper ‘L’Équipe’, was made official this Friday .

As revealed by both parties, the Amaury group maintains the rights to the trophy and will continue to organize and supervise the voting system. UEFA, in turn, brings its football experience, with the commercialization of global rights and the organization of the annual gala.

Two awards will be added to the existing program, coach and coach of the year. Furthermore, the trophies for best player, best player, best under-21 footballer, best goalkeeper, best scorer from the previous season, best club (male and female) and the Sócrates award, which highlights humanitarian work, remain.

The Ballon d’Or is a prestigious trophy that recognizes the best footballer of the year and has been awarded since 1956. Cristiano Ronaldo has received it five times and Lionel Messi, the record holder, has been awarded it on 8 occasions, including this year.
