Around Sébastien Prudhomme, the president of L’Ubaa (Badminton Union of the Albigensian agglomeration), members of the club mobilized to host the leisure discovery day of adapted para badminton.

A mobilization with the help of the CDSA (Departmental Committee for Adapted Sport) represented by Olivier Rouquier federal technical advisor for adapted sport. Supervised by educators, around forty athletes aged 15 to 55 with disabilities responded to the invitation.

These discovery days aim to encourage and lead people with mental or psychological disabilities or those suffering from ASD (autism spectrum disorder) into physical and sporting activity, in a secure environment. Adapted sport also offers its practitioners the opportunity to develop social ties and regain independence.

Six specialized medico-social establishments represented

Welcomed in the Puygouzon gymnasium, they were able to discover the practice of this racket sport, supervised by around ten volunteers from the UBAA. On the pitches, beautiful exchanges took place with good moments of sharing and conviviality, beyond the sporting aspect. At the end of the meetings, diplomas and awards were awarded. Each participant left with a medal and a prize, and a souvenir photo delivered by the photobooth terminal. The volunteers, for their part, were rewarded by the joy of the participants, who declared their desire to return next year.

The CSDA organizes 80 annual meetings, which bring together 1,500 members from 30 multi-sport adapted sports clubs. Present at the meeting were Marcel Maurel representing the Occitanie para badminton league, the Maison Sport Santé Spécialisée of Vyv3 with an APA teacher (adapted physical activity), and the municipality of Albi with Marie-Corinne Fortin, deputy mayor . The UBAA wishes to participate in societal issues of inclusion, with a real desire to encourage the reception of people with disabilities within the club.
