UANL Excels at 2024 National Universiade: Wrestling and Badminton Teams Stand Out

The Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) closed the day on Tuesday with 10 medals at the 2024 National Universiade, standing out in wrestling and badminton. The university wrestling team won nine medals: two gold, three silver and four bronze. Héctor Sánchez Zapata (63 kg, Greco-Roman) and Edwin Martín Rivera (57 kg, free) won gold.

While the badminton team won team bronze, after defeating the Autonomous University of Baja California and UNAM, but fell to the University of Guadalajara in the final.

Advances in other sports

Baseball: The Tigres defeated the Venados of the Marist University of Mérida 8-5, advancing to the semifinals. They will face the ITSON Colts today.

Paddle: Gerardo Pérez and Luis Mora advanced to the quarterfinals after beating the University of Guadalajara and the Mondragón University of Mexico 2-0, respectively. While the felines reached the semifinal by beating representatives from the Anáhuac Querétaro University, the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, the Technological Institute of Sonora and the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí.

Bardas football and other sports: In bardas soccer, the women’s team won 3-2 against the Juárez University of the State of Durango, while the men’s team tied 3-3 against the Pedregal University and won 2-1 in shoot outs. This Wednesday, the Tigres begin competitions in tochito and indoor volleyball.

Cybersports: The UANL secured two semifinals and one final in the FIFA video game.
