Toronto Blue Jays fall 4-3 to Tampa Bay Rays despite late rally

Despite a burst of pride at the end of the game, the Toronto Blue Jays lost 4 to 3 against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday at the Rogers Centre.

This setback is the second in a row for John Schneider’s men, and a fourth in their last six outings. Against the members of the Florida team, the attack of the local favorites still had difficulty getting going.

Indeed, we had to wait for a two-run homer from Davis Schneider, his fifth in 2024, in the eighth inning to see the Queen City club score. A single from Cavan Biggio allowed the Blue Jays to come within one point of their opponents of the day later in the inning, but it was too little too late.

The Rays opened the scoring on an error by Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who missed his throw to Ernie Clement. Randy Arozarena didn’t ask for more, he who took the opportunity to score the first point of the match. Richie Palacios then increased his team’s lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning when he hit a two-run bomb.

Yandy Diaz finally scored the winning run for his team on a single in the seventh inning.

It was Chris Bassitt (3-6) who recorded the defeat for the Blue Jays. In just over five innings on the mound, the 35-year-old allowed five hits, three runs and a home run. Tyler Alexander (2-2) collected the victory for Tampa Bay. The latter also pitched seven perfect innings, before faltering when Danny Jansen hit a single in the eighth inning.

The two teams will cross swords again on Saturday. The next day they will play the third and final duel of their series.
