Toronto Blue Jays Fall 2-1 to Tigers for Second Straight Day

For a second day in a row, the Toronto Blue Jays lost 2 to 1 to the Tigers in Detroit on Saturday afternoon.

The start of the match for the Queen City club proved fatal, as the Tigers scored their two runs in the first inning when Kerry Carpenter hit his eighth home run of the season. Note that it was his second bomb in as many days against Toronto, he who had already stretched his arms Friday in his team’s 6-2 victory.

Tigers starter Reese Olson (1-5) was excellent on the mound. In just over six innings of work, he allowed only three hits and one run, in addition to striking out four Blue Jays batters.

It was Jose Berrios (5-4) who assumed the same role for Toronto. Without being bad, the 29-year-old athlete conceded the Tigers’ two runs, thereby allowing seven hits in as many innings pitched.

The visitors’ only run came off the bat of Davis Schneider when he hit a double in the seventh inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Schneider and Isiah Kiner-Falefa were the only Blue Jays players to send the ball to safety.

With this setback, Toronto has now lost three times in its last five outings. John Schneider’s men will finish their four-game series against Detroit on Sunday.
