They question the uses of AI in music from the El Aleph Festival – El Sol de México

A few months ago Bad Bunny, The Weeknd and Drake were victims of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a tool they used to generate new content from their voices.

These events, as well as the cloning of voices, set the tone for an investigation by Nicolás Madoery, director and founder of FUTURX content, and Pedro Fernandes, Brazilian music producer, in order to explain the true importance of AI.

Through the panel “Artificial Intelligence: Your new superpower in the music industry of the future”, shared online as part of the activities of the El Aleph Art and Science Festival, organized by UNAM, the authors addressed the topic.

Madoery and Fernandes began their presentation with the description of AI, as well as its current use, whether from the creation of texts, images, videos, to musical compositions.

“Artificial Intelligence is the ability of a machine to imitate human cognitive functions such as learning, reasoning and problem solving. Right now it has recognition and the ability to visually recognize a thing, a tool, make decisions and translate languages,” Madoery said.

According to a survey carried out by exhibitors, “99% of digitalized people in musical ecosystems use or will use AI in the future”, its objective is to experiment and explore new ways of working and creating, save time and as a trigger of ideas to enhance creativity.

“We are responsible for how we learn, for how we take these tools and use them, it seems to me that it becomes key to understand it to use it for a positive place, to help, we are at that moment of how we can take that tool,” said Madoery.

During the panel it was reported that there are different types of AI programs that can help create content, from giving an order to request some predetermined audio or music, for example: indicating that you request to make a song in reggaeton, with a woman’s voice, with specific characteristics.

There are also other programs that perform mastering, mixing tracks and other musical procedures until receiving psychological assistance for industry workers.

One of the unknowns was the cloning of the voice, so the speakers’ position was always to invite people to create, but not to copy or clone. That is, different voices of singers from all over Latin America can be brought together, but to generate one’s own voice and take advantage of that process and create a work or piece.

Two important programs are also mentioned, “Triniti” and “Wolfie IA”, the latter is an advisor trained with data entered by humans, to review contracts between record labels and artists. You upload the PDF, the program reviews it and draws conclusions about whether a further specification is needed or what terms not to accept to have a good relationship between both sectors, without one taking advantage of the other.

Finally, there is still a long way to go to regulate this type of tools. The panel concludes with questions about the ethics and morals of the use of AI, that is, when a work is created, whose credit is it?

In addition, giving the occasional order to generate content is not necessarily a commitment to quality.

“The process of creating content is carried out more by the creators than by the machine. Personalized results require much more time,” said Fernandes.
