The Würzburger Shines as Mavericks Take Game 5 Against Clippers

The Würzburger sank five three-pointers in Game 5 and recorded 15 points (5/7 3P, 3 rebounds) for the Mavericks. The big man got the Mavs rolling in the second quarter with his throws, while the Clippers hardly had anything going together. Luka Doncic took over after the break, the Slovenian scored 14 of his 35 points (14/26 FG, plus 7 rebounds and 10 assists) in the third quarter, which the guests won 33:23.

Kyrie Irving (14, 6/14), on the other hand, scored less this time, but struggled in defense against James Harden (7, 2/12, 7 assists, 4 TOs) and played extremely well for the team. Derrick Jones Jr. (12, 3 blocks), Dereck Lively II (12, 7 rebounds) and Jaden Hardy (14, 5/8), who scored all of his points in garbage time, also scored in double figures.

The stars were particularly disappointing for the Clippers. Harden hardly found any offense for himself, Paul George (15, 4/13, 11 rebounds) was invisible for a long time and only had a good phase at the end of the third quarter. Ivica Zubac recorded 15 points (7/8), but Clippers coach Ty Lue preferred to trust Mason Plumlee (3, 1/5) in some phases, but he played a very weak game. Daniel Theis (3, 1/1 3P, 1 rebound in 4 minutes) was used in garbage time for the first time in this series, and Lue briefly tried out PJ Tucker, but this measure also fizzled out.
