On this Tuesday, I believe the Texas Rangers will win over the Cleveland Guardians! Choosing the Texan club is part of my betting strategy “The Stingy Pitchers”, the rules of which are as follows:
Let’s say a team playing on the road has won its last two games by allowing 0 or 1 points in each of those victories. If their odds are below 2.50 – meaning they are not a Cinderella team – we should bet AGAINST them.
In other words, we expect the Cleveland club to suffer a defeat after enjoying a few games in which they allowed very few points to their opponents. Based on my data collected over seven years, this proves to be a profitable strategy.
However, let me issue a brief warning. For the past four years, I’ve tracked which teams matched my 19 major league baseball betting systems every day. During this time, “The Stingy Pitchers” betting angle hasn’t necessarily worked very well, so I recommend exercising some caution here.
So far this year we have made 12 bets using this system and we have maintained a 6-6 record. Since the average rating was 2.22, we’ve had a gain so far, but nothing spectacular either.
If you take a look at the Guardians’ recent schedule, you’ll find that they won their previous two games by the same score: 7 to 0. Since they are on the road on Tuesday and their odds are clearly below 2.50 , we have to trust the Rangers.
It’s a scary bet to make! Cleveland starter Ben Lively has been pretty solid with a 2.63 ERA. However, he showed signs of weakness giving up three runs on eight hits against the lowly Chicago White Sox in his last outing. Given his lack of experience, I feel like this could knock his confidence and he won’t be at his best against the Rangers.
Texas Gunner Jack Leiter doesn’t inspire confidence either. The 24-year-old first-year player struggled in his first two major league starts. As I mentioned several times last year, I tend to bet on teams that use very inexperienced starting pitchers, because the rookie bettors are all betting against them, which moves the odds and creates the value.
