Former Boleslav striker Róbert Lantoši made the last cuts to the Slovakian roster for the World Cup. In addition to him, defender Rayen Petrovický and forward Samuel Takáč will not play at the championship in Ostrava.

At the same time, Lantoš has had a fantastic season: in Mladá Boleslav he mastered the team’s scoring in a sovereign manner, and in extra-league productivity he finished eighth with 47 points (20+27) from 50 games.

But…

“With NHL players coming in, it was very difficult for him to find a place in the first two fives. And I don’t know if we could use Róbert so well in the third or fourth line. In any case, it was one of the most difficult decisions,” said general manager Miroslav Šatan after the announcement of the final nomination.

Ex-Hradec shooter Oliver Okuliar will not play in the championship for a similar reason. “We didn’t want players who are used to playing in the first two lines and power forwards to be in the role of substitutes. That’s why the decisions were what they were,” explains Šatan.

“With NHL players coming in, it was very difficult for him to find a place in the first two fives.”

At the same time, he announced that the Slovaks will still have one, maybe two vacant spots on the roster. We will be waiting for the development of the playoffs in the farm AHL, where compatriots Adam Sýkora or Marián Studenič will start. “One or two names still come to mind. If they drop out, we’ll probably contact them,” advises Satan.
