The referee resigns after Cremonese-Pisa: “I am leaving football in the most difficult moment of my life” – Football

He blew the whistle at the end of the match between Cremonese and Pisa, in Serie B. A few minutes later he announced that it would be his last match as a referee. May 1st, the day of Parma’s promotion, coincided with the farewell to work on the pitch for Manuel Volpi.

The referee resigns after the match

Thirty-five years old, born in Città della Pieve, enrolled in the Arezzo section. Also applauding his latest direction was his beloved brother Michele, in the stands of the Cremona stadium. “I hereby tender my resignation from my beloved association. With affection and infinite gratitude, Manuel.” This is the letter with which he said stop. Volpi is going through a very delicate personal moment, which probably also affected his seasonal performance. These problems, of which all his colleagues were aware, are the real reason behind the drastic decision. Which was followed by a story against those who tried to exploit this announcement: “I resigned due to a very serious personal problem… anyone who wants to write inaccuracies to discredit me will have fun with my lawyers”.

Resigning referee: thanks to Orsato

Problems also addressed with the support of the union representative of Italian referees, Daniele Orsato. Not since this year has he played the role of an almost older brother to his colleagues at The Hague: he protected Di Bello after the famous mistake at the start of the championship when he didn’t see (not at all helped by VAR) the penalty in favor of Bologna against Juventus. And then other examples, which have made it a bulwark within the group. This is demonstrated by the message that Volpi wanted to pay him, announcing his decision: “I close it here together with the strongest of all and a man who stood by me in the most difficult moment of my life…”, he wrote, posting a photo with Orsato.

The referee resigns: the letter

These are the first words of a letter entrusted to Instagram to announce the end of his career. An emotional post: “I am leaving refereeing and any other role within my beloved association. After 20 years, a journey that made me the man and father I am now ends. I thank all my colleagues from the President to the kids who dream of arriving in Serie A. I thank all the Presidents, sporting directors, managers and coaches from Spalletti up to the top 2 of my first rookie race. I thank the footballers, from the champions that I had the honor of knowing to the children who hope to become one… everyone remember that we are always more sorry than you when we make mistakes because our only aim is to give the best service to football… I thank all the players today who had the usual exemplary behavior towards me and at the end of the match they accepted everything I explained to them about my work… it was wonderful to be part of this world that took me from children to San Siro . Thanks to: Rocchi, Rizzoli, Morganti, Giannoccaro, Trefoloni, Stefani, Gava, Pacifici, Brighi, Damato and Gervasoni who accompanied me on my journey from amateurs to Serie A. Heartfelt thanks to all of you. Manu”.
