The popular announcement of the signing of three MEPs from the orange party has left the political project that will be headed by Jordi Cañas in the June 9 elections even more affected. And the names reach the bone of their political power: they are the MEPs Susana Solís and Eva Poptcheva, but also the MEP until now leader of the space, Adrián Vázquez. In fact, the former general secretary of Cs resigned following the disagreement between the nucleus of Carlos Carrizosa on the integration within the PP, which was frustrated. This caused a landslide, but with these new movements the decomposition of the formation on the European continent is accelerating.

In addition to these star signings, announced through social networks, there is another addition that particularly hurts Cs, with the announcement with hype and silverware by the popular leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo: the philosopher and writer Fernando Savater, who had supported the party in several elections after having done so for UPyD, will now close the PP lists in the Eurochamber. Without going any further, in early April he participated in an event alongside the Orange 12-M candidate, Carlos Carrizosa, in which they shared the priority of fighting “the problem of nationalism” and said that it would help the formation “as much as I could.” The escapes it suffers are added to notable losses such as that of fellow MEP Maite Pagazaurtundúa, who left politics at the end of March.
On the one hand, the leader of Cs in Catalonia, Carlos Carrizosa, and the state spokesman and candidate for the European elections, Jordi Cañas, publicly express full confidence in the recovery of training after the decline of 2019 and the near disappearance of political map in 2023 – with only the hope of the Catalan stronghold -. For this reason, they had focused from the beginning on the Catalan and European elections, which were linked by the early call of the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès – who caught them on the wrong foot. However, the lists for the Catalan elections have already meant a loss of political capital, with unexpected farewells such as that of the group’s spokesperson in Parliament until now, Anna Grau, which added to the trend of losses dragged on from 2021 -with resignations or affiliation to the PP, as is the case of Pere Lluís Huguet and Lorena Roldán, now candidates for the elections to the People’s Parliament in Tarragona-. Thus, the Cs Principality clings to a resistant list made up of people from the core of Carlos Carrizosa’s trust and militants who have endured the negative drift it is dragging along. Meanwhile, in Europe, Jordi Cañas has shown the support of fellow MEP Javier Nart, a person he trusts with a long career within his party, which contrasts with what the three colleagues have done so far in Brussels .
In any case, the party hopes to avoid the wave of casualties it has suffered with the faithful in opposition to the PP, which they do not trust and remember that they agreed with nationalism on numerous occasions, such as the Majestic. Precisely, the people of Carrizosa have launched this week a campaign against the pact between former presidents Jordi Pujol and José María Aznar, which involved the transfer of powers to the Mossos or the elimination of compulsory military service. In this way, they seek to avoid the staged disappearance that the surveys show: after the decline of 2019 and the elections of 2021 in Catalonia and 2023 in Spain, they face the life-or-death challenge of 12-M and the European 9-M.
