  • Amazon is dedicating a documentary to former tennis star Roger Federer.

  • Now the first trailer has been released.

  • The 42-year-old also announced the broadcast date.

To all tennis and especially Roger Federer fans: You have to circle this date in red on your calendar: June 20, 2024. That’s exactly when the documentation about the last twelve days of the 20-time Grand Slam winner will be published.

The superstar announced this himself on social media. Amazon Prime, which produces the documentary, also published a first trailer. There’s a lot of emotional riding in this. Federer’s wife Mirka has her say: “It was an incredible journey.”

Novak Djokovic, the current world number one and the most successful tennis player in history with 24 Grand Slam titles, is also quoted: “Roger’s legacy will live forever.” Yes, this trailer makes you want more. Now we have to be patient for a little more than a month.

“A very personal film”

It was already announced in February that the Federer documentary about the Wimbledon tournament would be published. The feature-length documentary also discusses Federer’s tearful farewell at the 2022 Laver Cup.

The documentary is directed by Asif Kapadia, who also made a documentary about Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna. Originally it was supposed to be a home video for Federer. But after the makers viewed the footage, it was decided to make a full-fledged documentary out of it. It will also feature an interview with Federer’s wife Mirka, the first in more than a decade.

“It’s a snapshot of my life during these twelve days, which is pretty hard and interesting,” Federer told the media company Bloomberg about the documentary. And further: “I never let anyone into my house. It’s a very personal film.” This sheds light on another level of the tennis tour – how good the camaraderie is on the tour. “Yes, there are rivalries here, but off the pitch there are friendships and respect.”
