The expected finale came in the fight for the German Judo Police Championship: Teammates Kevin Abeltshauser and Patrick Weisser from Bundesliga club TSV Abensberg met in the weight class up to 73 kilograms.
Both judoka had solved their tasks confidently in the previous rounds. “It was a tough fight, of course we both know each other very well,” said the favored Abeltshsauser, whose successful throwing technique brought him an early victory after a fight time of 1:32 minutes. With Team Bayern, both fighters won the bronze medal in the team competition.
In an unusual weight class
Abeltshauser scored points in the quarterfinals in the weight class up to 90 kilograms against the experienced Bundesliga fighter Dennis Mauer (Federal Police). In the semifinals (1:3) against Lower Saxony and in the fight for third place (3:0) against Baden-Württemberg, the matches were decided before Abeltshauser was allowed on the mat. Abeltshauser and Weisser are part of the Bavarian police’s top sports support program and were represented at the German championships through the Bavarian Police Sports Board.
Preparation for the European Police Championships
Through the German Police Sports Board, the duo will move on to their next goal, the European Police Championships in Sofia (June 13th to 17th). In preparation, Abeltshauser decided not to take part in international tournaments. The new German police master carries out the specific preparation at the Olympic base in Kienbaum.
