Taylor Swift’s influence is not limited to the music industry. The popular singer has extended her impact to sport, in this case to the National Football League (NFL), which has had to adjust its match schedule in the 2024 season due to the second phase of The Eras Tour in the United States towards the end of the year.

According to statements by Mike North, vice president of broadcast planning for the NFL, Swift’s show was a relevant factor in the organization of sporting events. However, the reason was to avoid logistical conflicts and crossings in the stadiums that will host both the concerts and the NFL games.

The second leg of Swift’s tour of the United States will begin at Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, from October 18 to 20, corresponding to Week 7 of the NFL. In that period, the Dolphins will face the Indianapolis Colts as visitors on October 20, ensuring that the stadium will be available for the recital.

The tour will then move to Caesars Superdome in New Orleans from October 25-27, impacting the Saints’ stadium availability. During Week 8, the Saints will travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers, to avoid the crossover.

The tour will conclude its American leg at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, home of the Colts, with concerts from November 1 to 3. The Colts will play the Minnesota Vikings on the road in Week 9, again ensuring the stadium is free for music events.

An interesting case is that of the Rogers Center in Toronto, where Swift will perform from November 14 to 16 and 21 to 23. In between those dates, the Kansas City Chiefs, her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s team, will play against the Buffalo Bills on November 17, just 160 kilometers away from Toronto.

Despite the closeness, Mike North assured that this was a coincidence and denied that it was decided to favor the two lovers.

Taylor Swift’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce took media attention to the NFL to another level. Since the couple went public in September 2023, Swift has been frequently seen at Chiefs games, often accompanying Kelce’s parents. Her presence also had an impact on Swift’s fans, adding new viewers interested in league games.

Former player and brother of Travis Kelce, Jason Kelce, commented on the media coverage by noting that the audience shows a clear interest in the couple. “The attention is there because the audience wants to see it. “She is a global star, the quintessential artist today, an immensely talented singer and songwriter and an incredible role model for young girls around the world,” Jason told ABC’s WCPO.

By the numbers, it’s clear that the romance has boosted visibility and brand value for both the Kansas City Chiefs and the league as a whole. According to the New York Post, Swift’s relationship with Kelce generated more than $330 million in brand value for the NFL and the Chiefs last season.

The singer, for her part, has downplayed her frequent appearance on sports broadcasts, as she assures that she only goes to the stadium as a show of support for her boyfriend. “I have no idea if they show me 17 times or just once. “I’m there to support Travis,” Swift said in an interview with TIME. “I’m not aware of whether they’re targeting me and pissing off a few parents, Brads and Chads.”
