Göttingen (dpa) – The basketball players from Syntainics MBC ended the Bundesliga season in 13th place. The Weißenfels team won their guest game at BG Göttingen on Thursday with 92:88 (51:41) and can no longer be pushed out of this place thanks to their eleventh win of the season. Johnathan Stove (21) sealed the victory with two free throws shortly before the end. In addition to top scorer Stove, Charles Callison (17) and Martin Breunig (12) played the biggest role in the guests’ success. Umoja Gibson (20), Bodie Hume (18) and Osaro Jürgen Rich (12) scored the most points for Lower Saxony.
After a balanced start, the Weißenfels team took the initiative. The Central Germans moved from 18:18 (8th) to 23:18 (10th) and 39:31 (16th) to 59:43 (23rd). The guests capitalized on this lead until the final phase. But Göttingen fought its way back to 88:90 and had the chance to equalize through Gibson. The throw from close range missed the Weißenfels basket. With ten seconds left, Stove, who scored seven of his 21 points in the final quarter, held his nerve and made both free throws to make it the final score.
