Struggling Prospect Miguel Vargas Gets Second Chance with the Los Angeles Dodgers

Miguel Vargas is one of the prospects with the most future on the Los Angeles Dodgers roster, but it has been difficult for him to adapt to the Major League level. Last year he played 81 games and in 256 at-bats he had 32 RBIs, seven home runs and struck out 61 times for a batting average of .195.

Numbers that led him to start the 2024 Major League Baseball season in the Minor Leagues where he has shown his best version. The Dodgers are being patient with the Cuban player and last Saturday he received his first call-up to the team and debuted in the 4-0 victory against the Cincinnati Reds.

“It was really very difficult for me. He had never fought like this before. Obviously, the goal of every player is to play in the Majors. It was really hard for me to accept that I was struggling so much and that they were sending me to the Minors. Things didn’t go as planned. “Last year made me a stronger person,” said Miguel Vargas, who had been playing in the MLB since the 2023 All-Star Break.

Miguel Vargas did not have his best night and was unable to hit the ball in his three outings at bat. Despite not having the performance he would have wanted, he is confident in his talent and assured that he is learning from the mistakes he has made in the past. The 24-year-old will be ready when he is called up again by Dave Roberts.

“I think the injuries I had last year have affected my swing. He had very bad habits when hitting the ball and it was very difficult to get back to the level where he was,” commented Miguel Vargas.

His numbers in the Minor Leagues

The reality is that Miguel Vargas has great potential because of what he has shown this season in the Minor Leagues. In 39 games he has hit eight home runs and 39 RBIs in 181 at-bats. This year will be the Cuban’s second chance in the MLB and he will have to show that he has the talent to stay on a team that is full of players like Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani, to mention a few names.
