Striving for Improvement: French Archers Reflect on Training for Paris 2024

“How am I going to be even better next time? »

At 2:00 p.m., Marc Chavet sounded the start of hostilities starting with the mixed team finalsbefore the team matches then the individual matches. The fervor of the supporters who chanted the names of the archers each time they arrived in front of the targets set the tone for a day of training like no other.

The best French people competed for almost three hours, to have fun, gauge each other and above all test themselves in competitive conditions reminiscent of the Olympic Games.

A real challenge for Lisa Barbelin!

“It’s not easy, because there are lots of people, so you have to perform a little well and it was felt [la pression] in my first two matches, I was less strong,” she declared afterwards, slightly disappointed.

Associated with Thomas Chirault, she failed to reach the final either in mixed teams or individually. But “it’s better to be destabilized now than in a few months!” » she admits, with a smile on her lips.

Effectively. And that’s precisely why they were testing themselves on this March afternoon. Training in these conditions in the spring will make it possible to identify the progress to be made between now and the summer to aim for the medal when it really counts: at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“I try to take it like that,” explains Lisa Barbelin. “I try not to say to myself: ‘oh I was bad, that’s really bad’, but rather: ‘I wasn’t very good, but that’s no big deal. What do I need to do to be better afterwards?’ And find the positive precisely.”

So, even if the results were not there and the competitor’s frustration took over, the pleasure of sharing this moment was stronger than anything.

“Seeing all these people afterwards, signing autographs for them, seeing that they were happy and moved, talking together, all my frustration went away and gave way to: ‘how am I going to be even better next time?’ »

Among the French archers, the motivation is there before tasting the Olympic Games at home. But first, let’s the first stage of the World Cup which will take place in the People’s Republic of Chinafrom April 23.
