DHe Olympic third-place finisher Shamil Borchashvili will not be taking part in the Judo World Championships starting on Sunday in Abu Dhabi. “After the European Championships, I don’t feel fit enough to fight at the top. Recovery and training definitely makes more sense to me at the moment,” the 81 kg fighter was quoted as saying in a broadcast. In Zagreb he won the bronze medal at the end of April. Austria’s association is sending twelve participants to the World Cup.

In the Olympic rankings for participation in Paris, Shamil Borchashvili is in eighth place and therefore has a secure starting place in Paris, brother Wachid Borchashvili follows in 17th place and would also meet the formal criteria. However, only one participant per nation and weight class is allowed to compete at the Summer Games.
