San Diego Padres Acquire Luis Arraez in Trade with Miami Marlins: What it Means for Both Teams

The San Diego Padres acquired second baseman Luis Arraez in a trade with the Miami Marlins.

In return, the Padres would get their hands on reliever Woo-Suk Go and prospects Dillon Head, Jakob Marsee and Nathan Martorella.

The Marlins made a roster change just before the start of their game against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, removing Arraez from the top spot in the batting order.

Champion hitter of the American League in 2022 and the National League in 2023, Arraez experienced less success in his second season with Miami, despite a respectable average of .299.

Last year, Arraez posted a batting average above .400 through June. He finished the season with a .354 average.

With the Padres, he should primarily be used as a designated hitter. Xander Bogaerts is the team’s regular second baseman after giving way to Ha-Seong Kim at shortstop this season.

The Marlins are in last place in the National Division East with an ugly 9-24 record heading into Friday’s games.
