Some players with rising prices and a handful of undecideds: here is the latest update of our Super Mock Draft.
Novelty
Tristan da Silva – The excellent performances he provided in the NCAA tournament gave further strength to his candidacy for the Draft. The Colorado winger offers more than enough guarantees both in shooting and as a passer to cover the physical gaps, especially regarding his lack of explosiveness. A place just outside the lottery is almost assured.
Carlton Carrington – For the Pittsburgh freshman, the various scrimmages in which he takes part will be decisive to understand if he can aspire to a call in the first round. He currently holds pick number 25 in our Super Mock Draft and he certainly has excellent ball handling and good shooting skills. However, he lacks explosiveness, which limits him a lot when he wants to go to the rim.
Tyler Kolek – Marquette’s brain has finished its college adventure and is now looking for a place upstairs. Lots of efficiency in the pick-and-roll and closing to the basket, but not enough to aspire to a starter role. At the moment he will arouse the interest above all of teams looking for a leader for their second unit.
DaRon Holmes II – His prices are on the rise after an excellent month of March and he deserves a call in the first round. Athletic and explosive big man who has always produced a lot and effectively in the low post and as a roll, as well as having produced such an impact on the two halves of the court as to guarantee him the double award of POY and DPOY in the A-10. Add to that an improved long shot over the last year, especially in pick-and-pop situations.
Stay or go?
Until May 29th everyone has the opportunity to test their chances and decide whether to try to enter the NBA or whether to postpone perhaps for a year in the hope of having more credentials at the end of next season. Among those who are still undecided there are many prominent names on the collegiate scene. UConn is holding an open roster spot for the eventual return of Alex Karaban, a 38% three-point shooter but who doesn’t have high level physicality and athleticism. Some mocks give it around 45.
Similar speech also for Caleb Love who may have the extra year of Covid to spend. At the moment the former UNC and Arizona player is not even projected in the second round. Those who could remain instead are Johnny Furphy who seems capable of snatching a pick at the end of the first round, despite the fact that in February he was also given in the lottery, and KJ Lewis. At the moment Arizona’s freshmen start at the back, but he is an all-round winger who could make more than one fall in love with him during the approach.
