Reasons why Ribka Sugiarto withdrew from PBSI

KOMPAS.com – Indonesian men’s doubles badminton player, Muhammad Rian Ardianto, explained the reasons why his girlfriend, Ribka Sugiarto, chose to resign from PBSI.

This was conveyed directly by Rebekah regarding her resignation request to PBSI on Friday (10/5/2024).

As is known, Rian and Rebekah were previously officially engaged, Saturday (23/12/2023).

The two couples have plans to get married after the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Yesterday we talked a lot. Rebekah and I also had a lot of considerations,” said Rian, quoted from Bola Sport.

“Perhaps she would prefer to withdraw because she also looks at the competition map (world women’s doubles) as well,” he added.

Nevertheless, Rian also explained Rebekah’s condition while fighting for the Indonesian women’s doubles.

“Apart from that, he was injured and changed partners a lot, even though he previously won the 2024 Swiss Open,” said Rian.

“The results are good, but what Rebekah feels is that competing at the top level seems to be hard. It’s from Rebekah herself that she wants to compete hard. So, there are a lot of considerations,” he added.

However, Rian realized that if the 24 year old player continued to insist on continuing his work at national training, the results would not be optimal.

“However, he felt it. He was afraid that if he was forced the results would not be optimal and there would be other risks. There were lots of unpleasant comments,” said Fajar Alfian’s partner.

“Instead of avoiding it, it’s better to just prepare yourself for marriage and life in the future,” said Rian.

“This year we will also get married. It’s good for him to focus on preparing for the wedding. He always told me, he supports me competing in the Olympics first,” he explained.

“So, he focused on preparing for the wedding and I focused on preparing for the Olympics. Apart from the Olympics, let him take care of it,” he added.

Rian said that Rebekah had wanted to resign since the end of the year.

“There was already discussion, but he still wanted to try first. I also said try it for a year and see what the results are,” said Rian.

“Even though the results are good, he feels the condition of his body. He is the one who competes and feels it every day during training,” he said.
