The 25th Real Madrid Basketball League turns 38 years old. On May 10, 1986, the team led by Lolo Sainz was proclaimed champion after defeating Barcelona away in the second game of the final. It was the third consecutive League that our team had won, the only one up to that point to win with the ACB format.
Real Madrid arrived in Barcelona with an advantage in the final after winning the first game 83-80. Lolo Sainz’s team had the opportunity to seal the series in the second match and they did so. Barcelona came out very strong and went into halftime leading the score (41-35), but our team, led by a great Fernando Martín, author of 26 points, and Townes who scored 20, turned the game around to win 86 -88 in an exciting final stretch.
