Quebec’s Abraham Toro Shines in Major League Baseball Career Resurgence

Quebecer Abraham Toro is probably playing the best baseball of his career in the Major Leagues as he leads the Manfred circuit in hits since the beginning of May, with 28.

Last night, the 27-year-old from Longueuil made the difference for the Oakland Athletics by hitting a solo home run in the eighth inning in a 5-4 victory against the Colorado Rockies (watch in main video).

“It’s great to see,” admitted A’s manager Mark Kotsay after yesterday’s game.

“He has matured a lot in his at-bats since the start of the year,” he said, adding that Toro is probably going through his best streak “of three or five weeks.”

In addition to his game, the Quebecer’s personality appeals greatly to Athletics.

“He is fantastic, his smile is contagious, he plays with enthusiasm, he is a very good teammate,” praised Kotsay.

Traded by the Milwaukee Brewers to the A’s last November, Toro carved out a place for himself in training camp with his new team. Since the start of the current campaign, the one who also spent time with the Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners has maintained a batting average of .294, with five home runs and 18 RBIs in 170 at-bats.
