Ostapenko’s loss in the quarterfinals of the doubles competition of the Rome “WTA 1000” tournament

Ostapenko and Kichenok, who are seeded sixth in the tournament, lost 3-6, 7-5, 5:10 to Italian duo Sara Errani/Jasmine Paolini.

The Latvian/Ukrainian couple started the first set with a serve, winning the fourth game when the opponents were serving and making it 3-1, but lost the next six games.

The second set, which the Italians started with a serve, in the third and fourth games, the duo exchanged lost games of their own serve. The same happened from the seventh to the tenth game.

In the last two games of the set, however, Ostapenko won with Kichenok, realizing the second of three set points.

In the super tiebreak, the Latvian/Ukrainian duo went ahead with 0:2, but after 2:3 they lost six points in a row, giving the opponents seven match points, of which they managed to win back only three.

Ostapenko earned 215 world doubles ranking points in reaching the quarterfinals.

It has already been reported that in the first round match, the Latvian and Ukrainian duo beat Hungarian Anna Bondar and Spaniard Kristina Bukša 6-1, 6-0, and in the second round, Canadian Leila Fernandes and Dutch tennis player Aranča Rusa 6-1, 6-2.

In singles competition, Ostapenko reached the quarterfinals on Monday, earning 215 world ranking points.

The tournament in Rome takes place on clay courts.
