New sporting leadership at Leoben

Second division team DSV Leoben is repositioning itself. Chairman Mario Bichler announced his resignation at a press conference on Wednesday and the German Sascha Gulevski was presented as his successor. The Upper Styrian team also hired a new sports director, Thomas Janeschitz. The contract with coach Carsten Jancker was extended beyond the summer until the end of the coming season.

“For me, this is no longer humanly acceptable. The situation in December, the media reporting, the anonymous complaint, that triggered an avalanche,” said Bichler, explaining his departure. At the end of the previous year, the media reported that there was suspicion of money laundering and corruption at the club, but the club rejected these.

The 57-year-old Janeschitz was a coach at league rivals Dornbirn until January 2024 and is now setting up his tent in Leoben. Coach Jancker surprisingly returned to the bench of the current third-place team at the beginning of April; he had previously been fired in August 2023.

Currently no gaming permit

The club is currently struggling with further problems off the pitch. At the end of April, the Leobeners were denied admission to the second division by the protest committee for financial reasons, meaning the club still has no permission to play for the coming season. However, the club announced that it would go to the Permanent Neutral Arbitration Court.
