Two hundred meters of cable that winds along the structure, connected to 40 amplifiers that spread relaxing notes. The sixth 300 square meter walking area has been inaugurated. Fosella: “A dream come true, but it’s just a piece”

Listening to music helps you relax. This also applies to dogs. For this reason, the municipal kennel The footprint of La Spezia it is equipped with a piped music system that transmits relaxing Celtic music, a playlist with soothing songs that also puts the volunteers in a good mood. The novelty, inaugurated only a few days ago, consists of a 200 watt amplifier managed by a multimedia player connected to 40 60 watt outdoor audio speakers, all possible thanks to the 200 meters of cable that passes through the ducts, branching out along the entire structure.

A titanic job” – he comments Pierandrea Fosella, member of the board of directors of the La Spezia kennel who together with 30 other volunteers from the L’Imprint Association has been managing the activity since 2018 – “It only cost us 3350 euros”. The mise-en-place of the system was taken care of free of charge Marco Chersevanivolunteer and owner of Softmania new La Spezia, while Dj Super Marco May he took care of the music. “The DJ gave us a free consultation, we knew him because he adopted a dog from us” – Fosella recalls – “It’s nice to have these people who help us for free for the good of the animals and today it’s not a given”. The support of citizens is also fundamental: in 2022, 525 people donated their 5X1000 to the Association.

The musical choice came after several attempts. We tried so many things. For example, sounds of nature and symphonic music. But this sometimes has peaks, so we opted for Celtic music. It’s the one that works the best. And then it’s nice when it’s calm in the kennel, under the spring sun, to hear this music”.

However, this is not the only news. A new clearance area brings the enclosures to 6 levels where the 83 four-legged guests can go for a walk and thus enjoy the countryside which the area overlooks. With its 300 square metres, a 150 centimeter high galvanized electro-welded mesh along the entire perimeter and a 2 meter high green mesh with an anti-leak finish, the new space becomes a a safe place that can also be used by older dogs. A “happy” place in memory of Sara Funaro, a young mother from La Spezia who passed away at just 37 years old on 25 April 2021, in the middle of the pandemic. Sara loved her golden retriever Gioia, to the point of tattooing her name. “His father, Mario, donated to the Association, this is how the trip was born” – clarifies the volunteer.

The last two improvements enrich the long list of touches and additions present in the kennel today. “We must also thank the municipal administration, we have an excellent relationship with the mayor Luigi Peracchini” – says Fosella who adds – “Since we have been here, we have had fewer dogs and cats than in previous managements. The Municipality decided to invest the money saved in structural improvements”. Among these, also a cattery which accommodates 24 cats, but also box deluxe for dogs who have little chance of adoption and who suffer from cages, some also have a private run. And then again heating lamps for winter nights, a professional grooming department but also access to cure e top quality food. The municipal kennel of La Spezia thus confirms its excellence; the volunteers’ hope is that the model will also be replicated in the rest of the country.
