What does the final mean for the Europa League?

Leverkusen is qualified for the Champions League as German champions, so only FCK will be playing for a place in the Europa League in the final. If Kaiserslautern loses, TSG Hoffenheim will move up to the Europa League and 1. FC Heidenheim would be in the Conference League.

Who is the favorite?

Bayer Leverkusen, of course, the undefeated Bundesliga champions. The 0:3 defeat to Atalanta Bergamo in the Europa League final did not change that. While Bayer dominated the top division, 1. FC Kaiserslautern was stuck in the relegation battle in the 2. Bundesliga for a long time. But experienced coach Friedhelm Funkel still led the team to 13th place – and his experience is also a big asset in the final. He can tell his pros about 1985: Back then, as a player with Bayer Uerdingen, he caused a big surprise in the cup final against FC Bayern Munich, winning 2:1.
